Ross McCurdy is an Air Force Veteran and innovative high school science teacher whose projects have demonstrated pathways to a better future.  Now he is running as an Independent for Lieutenant Governor for Rhode Islanders who are ready for change.
After graduating from high school Ross served six years in the US Air Force, trained as a Russian Cryptologic linguist at the Defense Language Institute during the last decade of the cold war.  After the military Ross worked his way through Rhode Island College, graduating summa cum laude with a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology and teacher certification.  As anyone who has worked their way through college knows, it wasn’t easy, but the struggle to make ends meet while paying college tuition makes the diploma all the more meaningful.  Ross continued at Rhode Island College and earned a Master’s degree in science education.
The diploma led to a career as a science teacher at Ponaganset High School, where he has taught Chemistry, Alternative Energy, and other classes for twenty years.  A passion for clean, renewable energy and the environment lead to many innovative student projects including a hydrogen fuel cell powered rock and roll band, electric bikes, a street legal fuel cell Model T hot rod, and a 7,000 mile transcontinental road trip in a pickup fueled with biodiesel made from used cooking oil.  These projects created opportunities including scholarships and made student learning exciting, relevant, and fun, while bringing in over a million dollars in funding to the school and making a dedicated Alternative Energy Lab possible.   Other projects include a round trip Coast to Coast flight using aviation biofuel made from plant seeds and a fuel efficiency world record using aviation biofuels.  To achieve these flights Ross became an FAA certified pilot with Instrument and Commercial ratings.  For his work in renewable energy education he received an Honorary Doctorate in teaching from Rhode Island College and the Presidential Innovation award.
Ross and his wife Tamara live in Smithfield with their four children.  As a family man himself, Ross understands first-hand the many challenges working families face.
With a foundation of military service, educational excellence, and an unparalleled record of real-world achievement, Ross McCurdy is ready to serve Rhode Island as your Lieutenant Governor.
